Chak-e-Wardak Wasserkrafwerk

There are nomads among a lot of Afghan tribes. Nomads live under modest living circumstances, moving according to the season from one part of Afghanistan to the other up to neighbouring Pakistan. The nomads among the Turkish peoples in Northern Afghanistan (Uzbek, Turkmen, Chahar Aimaq) live in round-shaped tents called Yurts, that are also found in Central Asia. The Pashtoon nomads prefer the tent, seen on the picture, called kegday. Kegdays are very similar to ordinary European tents.
A letter of an Aid Worker about the Present Situation in Wardak Province
July 2002
As Wardak is located just on the length of the ways between Kabul - Qandahar and south and north of the country. Its strategical location enhances it importance in term of development as well. The total population of this province reaches approximately to 463,774, based on survey conducted by UNIDATA in 1990 (Not accurate figure). This province is surrounded by other provinces as Kabul, Bamyan, Ghazni, Loghar, and Parwan.
Mostly the residents of Wardak province are busy with agriculture and keeping of livestock.
This is very mountainous province and has less land for agriculture. The available land for cultivation purposes are not sufficient at all to cover the basic needs of major population. Due to these natural problems, the peoples forced to leave their home villages to other part of the country for works and study.
The distinguished characteristic of Wardak people is hard and honest working. Comparing to the past and other Afghans, they are mostly interested to education now. With consideration of their total population and facilities of life, the percentage of by-educated people in Wardak is very high. It seems that getting of education even at very remote area of the province is the only option and priority to the Wardakias, and they should keep on track this valuable process as long as they can. During the wartime, hug number of Wardaks got proper, education in abroad often in Pakistan. On regular basis, there have been some numbers of schools providing standard of educational service to the province, and made a very good result and output to the program. Due to this process of education in province boundary, hug number of Wardak students going to different university in country for higher study every year. In spite many problems created by different authority of the time to avoid their hug entering to University, they could go to University and met the mandate of admission to higher education.
Really, they can prove their capability and capacity of education and works.
But unfortunate, some number of high schools in Wardak supported by some Arabic Organisation since long time, recently shut down. And still no organisation including the government affectionate to run them. And this is at the result of political environment prevailed on country since collapsing of former rulers Taliban that left no intact the educational program and faces challenge now.
In order to keep the education status in Wardak brilliant, every one should start seeking to find out charitable resources to resume the education in these closed schools once gain.
This province is badly effected by current intense drought, which caused bad damage to the economy of common man. Since emergence of this natural crisis, no harvest is made in Wardak. Most of livestock was lost due to its effect. Creation of joblessness among the common Wardak forced them to leave the home village to other country for earning the money just to half full the stomach of their children. Even, in some area, the people can't to have hygienic drinking water as the water table is going down very quickly and difficult to catch it. Some people initiated, drilling of deep well in Wardak to get water, but its cost is in out-rang position of capacity of common Wardak. And this is not at the set frame of their financial status to have this project implemented. On other hand, this process will damage normal status of underground water resources as well.
As positive aspect of Wardak life, that they are always gathering at set frame of the council since stating out standing conflict in country to find out solution to any problem and exchange views over different local and national issue. Even the refugees living in Pakistan have been meeting for discussion over core issue of the time. They are discussing political, social and etc issues in theses gathering as well. The Wardak council in Peshawar named (De Wardako De Khair aow Sheghani Shoora) was holding on regular basis and printed out its manual. Different people from various segment of society coming to this council for sharing their views and paying fees of membership to cover its running cost.
The same council shifted to Afghanistan in Kabul and meeting twice a month regularly now, for discussion over most interestable issue related to this province. Some issues have been addressed through this council as find out sustainable resources for running of abandoned educational and health program in Wardak. It's revealed that they could complete registration of this program with government for forth steps. Even some benevolent Wardak-Afghans has expressed their tendency for investment in Wardak to pave way toward improvement of common life there. To find out job for common man in province boundary, surely effect positively the development process in Wardak in particular as well as on countrywide.
This council is going to be registered with the Ministry of Planning for legitimacy of its activities in county. National interest is the top priority on its strategical objectives. The member friend in this council will design mandate for its activities with consideration of national law soon.
This is all for the moment and will continue,
Regards,
Zabihullah
Aid Worker in Afghanistan
